Semester start feels like homecoming

Semester is starting in Lapland UAS and our international students return. Anton Sokolov is one of them.

Anton tells:

“It feels pleasant to back in Rovaniemi, this is my second home. Already when crossing the Finnish border I felt like I’m coming home.

My grand grandma is from Finland so I always had interest to come to Finland, but how I end up in Lapland it is another story.

I think people in Lapland are very friendly, happy and easygoing. I live in Rovaniemi and I love it because it is not too big and not too small. Everything is in balance for my taste. Some people find Rovaniemi too quiet but I personally don’t think so.

I have also made lots of friends here after starting my studies in Lapland UAS. Last year I started to train with the local American football team called Nordmen. The coach always gives instructions in English as well so it is very comfortable to train with them.

I do understand Finnish quit good but I don’t feel confident enough to start talking it yet. I watch news in Finnish and I think that is very good way to learn the language. In the future I would like to stay in Finland, to be more specific in Lapland. Rovaniemi is my new home.”
