Lapland UAS exchange student’s form Czech Republic won a car form the Tornio Ice fishing contest
Group of Lapland UAS student participated the ice-fishing contest in Tornio last Saturday 25.3.2017.
For some of the exchange students it was a brand new experience and all of the students were more than eager to participate.
The challenge was to drill the hole on the ice, since the ice was over 80 cm thick. Although we were very eager to fish, none of us got any fishes. Alzbeta Wesela, Vendula Horakova, Pavla Karsulinova and Katerina Smetanova, all from the Czech Republic, joined the team, too.
On Sunday evening 26 March, Vendula Horakova got a text message saying that she had won a car.
- At first, I thought it was a joke, one of those junk messages you get to your email, but them my friend Katerina Smetanova told me to call to the number, and ask if it is true and it was!
The girls bought their ticket from the competition area and divided the cost of the ticket together. Although Vendula’s name was in the ticket, they shared the price.
- When it was sure that we won, we did not know what to do, but in the end we decided to sell the car and share the money we got from it said Alzbeta Wesela.
Although winning the car was a huge thing, the girls assure that the entire exchange experience was excellent.
- We enjoyed our time here and everyone was so helpful with everything. When the news spread that we won the car, we got so much help from everyone said Pavla Karsulinova. What can we say? We love it here!
