International Nature Sport and Outdoor Education Partners visit Lapland UAS

On the 24th and 25th Jan, Lapland University of Applied Sciences welcomed a delegation of representatives from the Centre for Expertise and Sport Performance (CREPS) of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

This was an initial meeting to get to know each other and to also discover areas of collaboration for the future. It was also an excellent opportunity to meet members of the European Network of Nature Sport where Lapland UAS has recently become a partner and a chance to learn a little more about the opportunities that are available to Lapland UAS through this network.

Lapland UAS had the opportunity to introduce activities with EPSI and Clussport and the projects we are involved in, like the recently funded Erasmus+ project SeSe and the recently concluded Intereg funded Inno4sport. Lapland UAS also introduced upcoming topics such as Snow technology, innovation and smart urban routes, where we have been very active in project development.

In collaboration with a French University, the CREPS delegation also introduced an initiative called the European Campus of Outdoor sports and the development of an Outdoor Education master’s degree that would be of potential interest to Lapland UAS, as a future partner and contributor. With the upcoming introduction of the Lapland UAS international Outdoor Education courses and Sport Business Management degree programme, this could be an important collaboration to promote Lapland as a location for international staff and student exchange opportunities.

The group had an excellent experience in the forests of Rovaniemi where got to experience E-Fat biking, offered by the local tour provider Roll Outdoors. The group managed to cover a distance of 18km on these incredible machines, through winding trails and deep snow the adventure was not without its falls, but a soft landing was always guaranteed.

Meetings were hosted by Lapland UAS Rector Riitta Rissanen, Senior Lecturer and Outdoor Expert Tommi Haapakangas and Ben Taylor Sport and Tourism Development Specialist.
