Black Carbon mitigation roadmap for decision makers in three regions
The short-lived climate pollutant black carbon is a troublemaker in the Arctic. All Kolarctic states and regions emit black carbon that are harmful both nationally and globally.
As outlined by the EU BC policy initiative, there is a need for a common direction for countries and organizations to reduce black carbon emissions in the Arctic while paying attention to climate change and human health.
The aim of this project is building a black carbon mitigation roadmap for decision makers in three regions: Finland, Norway and Russia. Roadmap is suitable for coordinating the cooperation of professionals from various fields of expertise and eases communications of experts from different fields.
Roadmapping process can be seen as a way for project partners to create a common view of status quo and the future and related targets for everyone. It is worthwhile incorporating the knowledge and people from other projects into Black Carbon mitigation planning through roadmapping.
The regional council of Lapland has granted funding from Kolarctic CBC 2014-2020, which is cooperation programme between the North Calotte and northwest Russia. The Kolarctic CBC 2014-2020 programme aims to promote a viable economy of the region, where the natural resources are used in a sustainable way.
