Future bioeconomy

The development of the Arctic is based on the Northern conditions, sustainable use of renewable natural resources and a low-carbon approach.

Lapland aims to become a pioneer in bioeconomy and circular economy and increase the number of SMEs in the sector.

Research, development and innovation
Focus

The Future Bioeconomy competence group increases Northern competence by providing university-level education and conducting applied research that supports it.

The main fields for the Future Bioeconomy competence group are agriculture, forestry, natural resources, food business and reindeer farming. Bioeconomy and circular economy transcend sector boundaries and have plenty of business potential in Lapland.

The development of bioeconomy and circular economy will make Lapland increasingly self-sufficient.
