Registering as a student

The practices involved in registering as a university of applied sciences student and losing the right to study comply with the regulations of the University of Applied Sciences Act (932/2014 28§, 29§ ja 32§).

Students must register as attending or non-attending every academic year. Students register for one academic year at a time. However, if the right to study ends in December, registration is done only for the autumn semester. Registration for the next semester (spring 2022) is done in Peppi between 15th November 2021 and 10th January 2022.

Registration status may be changed during the academic year for a special reason by submitting an application to expertise group manager. Special reasons include significant changes in the student’s life situation, such as the student’s or a family member’s serious illness, maternity or paternity leave, military or civil service. A written document from the relevant official concerning the reason must always be enclosed with the application.

If you have problems with the registration, please contact: opiskelijarekisteriLapin AMK sähköposti

If you have been accepted as a student in spring 2015 or after, the absence period is a maximum of one academic year. Absence based on service under the Conscription Act (1438/2007), Non-Military Service Act (1446/2007), or Act on Women’s Voluntary Military Service (194/1995); or maternity, paternity or parental leave is not counted as study time. A written document from the relevant official concerning the reason must always be enclosed with the application.

A non-attending student may not participate in classes or exams, complete practical training as a part of studies or receive guidance in a thesis project being arranged by the UAS.

A student loses his/her right to study if he/she fails to register as attending or non-attending before the deadline. By application, the expertise group manager may restore the right to study.

A continuing student, who is obliged to pay the annual tuition fee, can’t enroll as attending for the next academic year before payment.

A student who has not completed his/her studies with the statutory time must apply extension for his/her right to study. If the extension for right to study is granted, the student cannot register as a non-attending student.
