Training abroad

As Lapland UAS student you have the opportunity to carry out your practical training period abroad. There is not a specific application period and you can carry out the training when most suitable for your studies. Lapland UAS’ students find a practical training place themselves. You can look for practical training placements for example through the Internet. You can find good hints from students' feedbacks, which you can find from the SoleMOVE system. Your degree programme might have training places through different partner universities and you can have more information from your teachers (please, see contact information). Students from Social Services and Healthcare faculty can apply placement also through Erasmus partners. If a student applies the training through an Erasmus+ partner you must follow the application deadlines; for autumn semester April 1st and for spring semester October 15th. You can also check available training places from ErasmusIntern-traineeship database.

Most important is to plan your exchange in good time in advance. The grant for exchange does not cover all the expenses of the exchange, therefore student must prepare to finance their exchange period themselves. For receiving the grant the duration of the training period must be at least 2 months and accumulate 5 ECTS / month. The content of the training must be planned carefully with the teacher in charge of the training so that it corresponds to the objectives set for the training. The International Services provide more guidance and help for the exchange (please, see Contact information).

The minimum length of the practical training period is two (2) months = 60 days.

Training destinations

Training grants, instructions and forms can vary depending on whether your training is carried out in Europe or outside Europe. For more information about these two training possibilities, please see the links below.

  • For training outside Europe you can apply for Lapland UAS travel grant and training grant. Please notice that you can’t receive the grant for training in your home country.

Health Africa

Health Africa- practical training exchange is performed through the Health Africa network. The target countries are Kenya and Uganda.

Health Africa network and Health Africa Development Co-operation Organisation HADCO is the third sector non-profit organisation. It has eight applied sciences as member, including Lapland UAS. The general goal of the organisation is to maintain, to support and to develop cooperation between Uganda, Kenya and Finland.

The students of the health care and social services can apply for the Health Africa programme. The application period is in general in the spring once a year. It is possible to apply for the Lapland UAS travel grant and training grant for the exchange. Please notice that you can’t receive the grant for training in your home country.

The network chooses students for the following autumn and for the spring on the basis of the application. The target countries are Kenya and Uganda. About 8-10 students per the country per a term is chosen for the programme.

For the students are arranged two orientation days before the exchange. In the orientation are gone through practice arrangements and matters which are related to safety and health. The duration of the practical training exchange is 90 days. During the training students will practice in 2-5 different training places.
