Re-establishing the right to study

Apply for the re-establishment of the right to study so that you can complete your degree studies

A student of the Lapland University of Applied Sciences

a) who has not enrolled for the academic year, or who has resigned from the Lapland UAS and forfeited their right to study, may apply for the re-establishment of their right to study. The right to study may be granted if the student’s right-to-study period has not yet expired. For more information please ask your student coordinator.

OR

b) Degree students who started their studies at the Lapland University of Applied Sciences on or after 1 August 2015 may apply for the re-establishment of their right to study if they have failed to complete their degree studies by the end of the right-to-study period or the discretionary extension period. The student must complete a maximum of 60 of the credits required for a bachelor’s degree or a maximum of 30 of the credits required for a master’s degree.

Re-establishing the right to study after the expiry of the right-to-study period

A student of the Lapland University of Applied Sciences who started their studies on or after 1 August 2015, and who has failed to complete their degree studies by the end of the right-to-study period or the discretionary extension period, may apply for the re-establishment of their right to study without participating in student admission (section 32 of the Act 932/2014).

The right to study may be re-established if the student needs to complete a maximum of 60 of the credits required for a bachelor’s degree or a maximum of 30 of the credits required for a master’s degree.

The maximum length of the right-to-study period granted to the student is two semesters. A student granted the right to study under this arrangement does not have any right to non-attendance or to discretionary extension. The student must attach a plan for completing their studies to the application.
The student must pay a processing fee of EUR 50 when the application is registered (section 3 of the Decree 1440/2014).

The application for the re-establishment of the right to study must be submitted in the E-form service. To enter the form page, you must identify yourself with a bank ID, a mobile certificate or a personal identity card equipped with a chip. After you have saved the information, you are taken to the Paytrail service for the payment of the processing fee. If you are unable to use Finnish identification, please contact the Student Affairs Office opintotoimisto@lapinamk.fi. The decision on the application will be sent to the email address given on the application.

Re-establishing the right to study due to resignation or failure to enrol

A student who has failed to enrol for attendance or non-attendance for the academic year in the manner determined by the Lapland UAS, or a student who has failed to pay the annual tuition fee in the manner determined by the Lapland UAS, will forfeit their right to study. A student may apply for the re-establishment of their right to study without participating in student admission (section 32 of the Act 932/2014).

When the right to study is granted, the semesters used are taken into account. The right to study may be granted if the student’s right-to-study-period has not yet expired. Semesters during which the student had no right to study are considered semesters of non-attendance. If the student has used all semesters of non-attendance, non-attendance arising from resignation or the failure to enrol will be deducted from the right-to-study period.
