Master students’ course in Kempten, Germany

Student Petri Kittilä writes about MBA students' study trip to Germany.

The students of the Diversity Management study program in Lapland and Kajaani University of Applied Sciences spent an excursion week in Kempten Germany together with the students of the Kempten University of Applied Sciences and the Northern Ireland University of Ulster. The international study week was implemented from May 8 to May 2017

Kempten University of Applied Sciences had organized a versatile program for a group of about 60 students. Week started in the rainy Kempten forest in Mariaberg with team building exercises and assignments. The day was led by well-known local company team building coaches Peter Hechenberg and Gabriele Hajek.

Although all were wet due to the heavy rainfall, the day was, however, very instructive and fun. In the evening, almost dry, we attended a welcome dinner at the brand new Art Hotel, where Northern Ireland students were already in attendance.

The study week consisted mainly of business visits. We got to know, around the Kempten and Lindau are, the internationally renowned global German companies ZF and Liebherr. After the ZF business visit, we visited the beautiful Lindau Island and Lake Boden in the afternoon.

Wednesday May10 was the actual study day of the week. The whole day was spent in Vöhlinsshloss, built in 1595. We listened to the Design Thinking coach Astrid Menz's introductions over the subject and realized the Design Thinking model as a problem solving group task under her guidance.

All in all, Kempten excursion week was a pleasant, versatile international experience. It's always interesting to see and get involved in working groups that consist persons of different cultural backgrounds. This is how you learn to see things from different perspectives and learn different ways of thinking.
